SITE ASSESSMENTS

SPCP offers site assessments and individualized assistance for childcare centers, public housing residents and management, schools and other educational facilities interested in beginning or fine tuning an existing Integrated Pest Management Program. Our staff will join you on a walk-through your facility and will highlight structural issues and sanitation conditions that contribute to pest problems. Participants receive a report documenting the results, along with suggestions for addressing problems identified during the walk-through.

WORKSHOPS

SPCP will conduct workshops for management personnel, teachers, child care providers, tenants or homeowners. Workshops will include components of an IPM program, repair and sanitation methods and a question & answer session. Attendees will receive an IPM toolkit containing caulk, a caulk gun, steel wool, clothespins, an instruction sheet, and fact sheets to be used to control pests at home.

ONGOING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

SPCP will assist you on technical IPM questions, including making sure that your pest control operator and waste hauler are properly informed of their important role in the IPM program. SPCP will do regular follow-up assessments and recommend any further activities needed to promote a successful program.

IPM Training a Success in Childcare Centers

Two Articles Analyze and Discuss SPCP's Work

Pesticide News No. 91Safer Pest Control Project and its work with childcare facilities in promoting Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Illinois was the subject of two recent articles: Impact of Integrated Pest Management in Illinois (Pesticides News 91 Mar. 2011)and Promoting IPM in Illinois Childcare Centers (Mir, Finkelstein & Tulipano, NeuroToxicololgy 31, 2010 pp. 621-626). The articles focus on analyzing the impact of SPCP's Partnership for Childcare IPM program on the perception and implementation of IPM as a result of training. The childcare program reached out to licensed childcare centers in Illinois to provide training to facility management and staff on how to put in place an IPM program and why it is necessary. A post-training survey was then conducted and is analyzed in these articles showing the success of IPM training for childcare centers in trained versus untrained respondents. The results of the analysis give hope to the future of IPM training to make a real impact on reducing childhood pesticide exposures.

School IPM Video Available!

“Integrated Pest Management in Schools: A Better Method”

This 12-minute video helps schools, parents and pest control operators understand and promote School IPM. Filmed at a Chicago-area school that has practiced IPM since 1994, the video addresses concerns about pesticide use, the basic components of an IPM program and the advantages of adopting IPM. A great resource for school board meetings, PTA meetings and staff trainings! For more information, download the brochure and order form (at right) or call SPCP at 773-878-7378 ext 204
